White Sox Designate Tyler Gilbert for Assignment
The Chicago White Sox have designated left-handed pitcher Tyler Gilbert for assignment as they expanded their active roster from 26 to 28 players. This move comes after the team selected outfielder Tommy Pham and recalled right-hander Tanner McDougal.
Gilbert, who has been with the White Sox for nearly two years, was previously acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies in December 2024. In the 2025 season, he pitched 51 innings with an earned run average of 3.88, although his performance was somewhat inflated by a favorable batting average on balls in play. In 2026, he has struggled, logging only six innings in the majors due to a shoulder injury and allowing eight earned runs.
As this is Gilbert's final option season, he will be out of options next year. His inconsistent performance and the passing of the trade deadline mean he will be placed on waivers soon. If he clears waivers, he will have the option to elect free agency.
