White Sox Set Record for Strikeouts in ALDS Game 3 Loss
The Chicago White Sox experienced a challenging night on Wednesday, suffering a 9-3 defeat against the Cleveland Guardians in Game 3 of the ALDS.
During the game, White Sox hitters struck out a total of 19 times, marking a new playoff record for the most strikeouts in a nine-inning game. Every player in the starting lineup recorded at least one strikeout, with only designated hitter Sam Antonacci and left fielder Randal Grichuk striking out fewer than two times.
The Guardians achieved this feat using a bullpen strategy, with seven different pitchers contributing to the strikeout total. Foster Griffin was particularly effective, recording seven strikeouts in 2.2 innings, while closer Cade Smith struck out five of the six batters he faced in the final innings. Despite the loss, the White Sox still lead the series 2-1 and will need to improve their hitting to secure a victory in the upcoming games.
