Widow of Airman Killed in Combat Receives Clarification on Benefits
The widow of an airman who died during a combat mission in the Middle East has received clarification from the Air Force regarding her husband's benefits after expressing her frustrations on social media. Maj. Alex Klinner, 33, was among six crew members who lost their lives in a KC-135 aircraft crash in Iraq while supporting operations against Iran.
Following her viral post, Libby Klinner was contacted by Air Force officials who confirmed that her husband's final paycheck would include hazard pay and combat-related tax breaks. Initially, she was informed by a military officer that he was ineligible for these benefits due to the classification of the situation as not being a war.
The Air Force acknowledged the initial misinformation and assured Klinner that all eligible combat theater benefits were included in her husband's pay. The service has committed to providing ongoing support to her and other families affected by the crash. A GoFundMe campaign for Klinner and her children has raised over $1.5 million, and she hopes her advocacy will help other families navigate similar challenges.
