Will Howard's Performance Raises Questions About His Roster Spot
The Pittsburgh Steelers are facing decisions regarding their quarterback roster following Will Howard's performance in a recent game against the Jets. In the 17-0 loss, Howard, a sixth-round pick in 2025, threw two interceptions despite completing 10 of 15 passes for 74 yards over four drives.
Howard expressed confidence in his play, noting he felt comfortable in the pocket and was progressing well through his reads. However, he acknowledged that the turnovers were detrimental. Coach Mike McCarthy indicated that receiver Roman Wilson, who was targeted on both interceptions, may share some responsibility for the mistakes.
With rookie Drew Allar performing in the second half and securing his position as a third-round pick, Howard's future with the team appears uncertain. The Steelers currently have four quarterbacks on the roster, and Howard may be the first to be released unless the team opts to keep all four. If released, there is a possibility he could be added to the practice squad without being claimed off waivers.
