Willaston Residents to Establish Own Village Council
Residents of Willaston, a village in Cheshire, are set to establish their own parish council after Cheshire West and Chester Council approved the plans. This decision follows a successful petition initiated by local residents, who expressed a desire for more influence over local affairs.
The council's approval came after three stages of consultation, with 222 residents participating in the final stage, where 85% supported the initiative. The first elections for the new council will take place in May, coinciding with other elections across Cheshire.
Supporters of the new council believe it will unify community efforts and provide a formal voice for the village. Local governance will also allow residents to address issues such as planning and financial management more effectively. The establishment of a precept, an additional charge on council tax, is anticipated to facilitate funding for local projects.
