William Byron to Honor Jeff Gordon with Throwback Paint Scheme at Phoenix
This weekend at Phoenix Raceway, William Byron will drive the No. 24 car with a throwback paint scheme that pays tribute to Jeff Gordon. The design features red flames on a yellow and black background, sponsored by Axalta.
This race marks the last appearance of the Axalta paint scheme before the company undergoes a rebranding for 2027. Hendrick Motorsports has indicated that fans should look forward to the unveiling of the new paint scheme.
Jeff Gordon, who is currently the Vice Chairman at Hendrick Motorsports, is the most successful driver in the team's history, with 93 wins. Byron, who has been behind the wheel of the No. 24 since 2018, has secured 16 victories, including two consecutive wins at the Daytona 500 in 2024 and 2025. The paint scheme for this race is a nod to Gordon's 2013 design, under which he won races at Phoenix in 2007 and 2011.
