William Regal Urges Wrestlers to Focus on Pin Attempts and Kick-Outs
William Regal, WWE's Vice President of Global Talent Development, recently shared insights on the significance of pin attempts and kick-outs in wrestling during a public discussion. With 42 years of experience in the industry, Regal highlighted how these elements are crucial for portraying the intensity of professional wrestling matches.
Regal pointed out that every pin should be executed with urgency, as it impacts the storyline and the wrestlers' earnings. He referenced a match between AJ Styles and Amazing Red from the early 2000s, noting how both wrestlers applied pins forcefully and reacted to kick-outs with equal intensity. He expressed concern that this level of commitment has diminished over the years.
Regal emphasized the need for wrestlers to respect their audience's intelligence, comparing wrestling to a movie fight scene where the portrayal must be convincing. He stated that if wrestlers are not willing to fully commit to the performance, they may not be suited for the profession. Regal, who retired from in-ring competition in 2013, continues to influence the wrestling world through his current role.
