Williams Criticized for Performance Issues in 2026 F1 Season
Formula 1 broadcaster Will Buxton has criticized Williams for failing to meet expectations in the 2026 season, describing their performance as overpromising and underdelivering. He expressed surprise at Carlos Sainz's decision to join Williams instead of Audi.
Williams has faced significant challenges this season, arriving at pre-season testing in Bahrain after missing private testing in Barcelona. The team has struggled with an overweight car and currently ranks ninth in the constructors' standings with 11 points. Drivers Sainz and Alex Albon are positioned 16th and 17th in the drivers' championship, accumulating six and five points, respectively. Their performance was further marred by a collision during the Dutch Grand Prix, resulting in Albon's retirement and a penalty for Sainz.
Buxton noted the contrasting approaches of Williams and Audi, the latter entering the grid as a works team in 2026 after acquiring Sauber. He remarked on the difference in mindset, suggesting that while Williams made bold claims, Audi has been more understated yet effective in their performance.
