Willson Contreras Shows Frustration During Rehab Game

Willson Contreras, currently on a rehab assignment with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, displayed frustration during a game against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. After the home plate umpire denied his request to step out of the batter's box to apply pine tar, Contreras stood still for six pitches, ultimately allowing the count to reach three strikes before throwing his bat in frustration.

Contreras is recovering from a left hamstring strain that led to his placement on the 10-day injured list. He sustained the injury during a game against the New York Yankees in late August. This season, he has been a significant contributor to the Red Sox, batting .274 with 26 home runs and 79 RBIs.

In addition to Contreras, Tanner Houck and Johan Oviedo are also rehabbing with the Sea Dogs. Houck is recovering from Tommy John surgery, while Oviedo is nearing a return after a right elbow flexor strain. Contreras played as the designated hitter the previous day, achieving a 2-for-4 performance, and is expected to return to the Red Sox soon.
