Winward Racing Moves Closer to GTD Championship After Road America Victory
Winward Racing achieved a crucial victory at the Motul SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix held at Road America, bringing them closer to a potential third consecutive IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD title.
The team, featuring drivers Russell Ward, Philip Ellis, and Indy Dontje in the #57 Mercedes-AMG GT3, won the race, reducing their points deficit to just 24 behind the overall leader Eduardo Barrichello, who finished 15th in the Heart of Racing Team’s #27 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 EVO.
Despite their win, the drivers acknowledged challenges with car balance and competition during the race. They credited their flawless pit strategy and execution for the victory, which also marked their third GTD win of the 2026 season, adding to their earlier successes at the Rolex 24 At Daytona and the Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
