Wirral Bus Network Returns to Public Control with New Routes
Two new bus routes are set to launch across the Wirral on October 25 as the local bus network transitions back to public control for the first time in four decades.
The new 453 service will connect Irby and Heswall to Clatterbridge Hospital, while the 483/484 circular services will link Arrowe Park Hospital with areas including West Kirby, Meols, Hoylake, Moreton, and Upton. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve hospital transport links in the region.
Mayor Steve Rotherham emphasized that public ownership aims to create a network that serves passengers effectively. The Liverpool City Region's Combined Authority will oversee routes, fares, timetables, and service standards, with plans to enhance evening and weekend services on key routes and improve connections to Merseyrail stations.
