WNBA Schedules Game 6 for Lunchtime Amid Venue Conflicts
The WNBA has scheduled Game 6 of the Finals between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream for Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Eastern in Atlanta. This decision comes after the teams are tied at two games each following their matches at the Chase Center in San Francisco and State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
The league faced challenges in planning due to the Hawks' game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, which is set for the same night. The Dream's home venue, Gateway Center Arena, has a limited capacity of 3,500, prompting the WNBA to adjust the Finals schedule earlier in the series. However, no contingency plan was established for a potential Game 6.
The decision to hold Game 6 during lunchtime has drawn criticism, as it may inconvenience fans and participants. The league had considered other options, but logistical issues prevented a more favorable schedule. Any championship celebration after the game may also need to be relocated to accommodate the arena's schedule.
