Woman Dies After Shark Attack at Orient Beach in East London

A tragic incident occurred at Orient Beach in East London on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of a 65-year-old woman named Janine Lochrenberg after a shark attack.

Janine was swimming with a group of open-water swimmers when the attack took place. Eastern Cape police were alerted around 7am and found her body with serious injuries upon arrival. Despite lifeguards' efforts to provide emergency assistance, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

In response to the incident, the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality has closed Orient Beach and Eastern Beach until further notice, advising the public to avoid the water. An inquest has been launched to investigate the circumstances of the attack, which serves as a reminder of the need for caution in ocean activities.
