World Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam Features Olympic Qualification
The 54th World Gymnastics Championships is taking place in Rotterdam from October 20 to 25, featuring over 400 athletes from 84 countries. This year's event is particularly significant as the top three teams in each event will secure qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
China and Japan's men's teams are considered favorites, while Great Britain, having recently retained their European title, aims for a medal. The USA women's team, dominant since 2011, will rely on the experience of Skye Blakely, who is competing in her fourth World Championships. The Russian team, competing under neutral status, faces challenges as three of their gymnasts were denied visas.
Great Britain's Alice Kinsella leads the team, returning to competition after becoming a mother. Other notable competitors include reigning men's all-around champion Daiki Hashimoto from Japan and Algerian Kaylia Nemour, who could become the first African winner in the women's event. The championships are being broadcast live on BBC platforms.
