WTA Finals to be Held in Charlotte, Aiming for Women's Sports Super Bowl Status

This year's finals will occur in Indian Wells, California, while the Charlotte venue, which is home to the NBA's Hornets, will feature the top eight singles players and doubles teams of the season.

WTA chair Valerie Camillo expressed the ambition to elevate the finals to the status of the Super Bowl for women's sports. The WTA plans to manage the event directly, moving away from previous outside-promoter arrangements. Financial specifics regarding the Charlotte deal have not been disclosed, but Camillo indicated a meaningful investment that supports the WTA's commitment to the city. The decision follows the termination of a previous agreement to host the finals in Riyadh, which was backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.
