WTA Finals to Relocate to Charlotte Starting in 2027
The WTA Finals will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina, starting in 2027, following a three-year agreement. This decision aims to provide more stability for the event, which has experienced frequent changes in location over the past several years.
Previously hosted in various cities including Riyadh, Guadalajara, and Fort Worth, the Finals will now be held at the Spectrum Centre, home of the Charlotte Hornets. The tournament will be shortened from eight days to five due to the NBA schedule, which may impact revenue.
WTA chair Valerie Camillo indicated that the organization is taking control of the event's operations and finances to ensure its future success. The upcoming Finals in Indian Wells will feature a prize pool of $10 million, which is lower than last year's amount in Saudi Arabia. The WTA also plans to relocate its global headquarters to Charlotte as part of this new agreement.
