WWE Crown Jewel Event Scheduled Amidst Rising Tensions in Saudi Arabia
WWE is preparing for its Crown Jewel event, which is scheduled to take place on November 7 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This comes amid increasing concerns about safety following recent violent incidents in the country.
On October 10, attacks at King Khalid International Airport resulted in 12 fatalities and over 300 injuries. Additionally, the U.S. State Department has ordered diplomats to leave Saudi Arabia after a separate incident at King Fahd International Airport led to one death and multiple injuries. Despite these warnings and other companies canceling events, WWE has not altered its plans.
Wrestling analysts, including Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer, have expressed skepticism about WWE's decision to proceed, citing potential financial losses of $70 to $90 million if the event is canceled. Meltzer noted that the decision could also jeopardize future events like WrestleMania. WWE has already announced two matches for Crown Jewel and continues to promote the event, although commentary on recent broadcasts has been cautious regarding its location.
