WWE NXT Head Writer Offers Promo Tips at SummerSlam Tryout

At the SummerSlam week tryout in Minneapolis, WWE's head writer for NXT, Johnny Russo, offered guidance to aspiring wrestlers on how to improve their promo skills.

In a behind-the-scenes video released by WWE, Russo emphasized the importance of using complete sentences rather than phrases during promos. He advised against asking rhetorical questions and encouraged wrestlers to share unique personal stories instead of generic statements. Russo also mentioned that while incorporating body movement is acceptable, it should not distract from the message being conveyed.

NXT coach Steve Corino noted the high quality of talent at the tryout, where many participants expressed interest in portraying villainous characters. Notable attendees included former AEW wrestler KJ Orso and others from various independent wrestling backgrounds.
