Yankees Fan's Catch Leads to Controversial Interference Call
A recent video has surfaced showing a Yankees fan celebrating a catch during Game 3 of the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays, held in The Bronx. The incident occurred in the bottom of the sixth inning when the fan reached over the left-field fence to catch a fly ball hit by Anthony Volpe.
The footage captures the fan, dressed in a dark blue Yankees bomber jacket, joyfully pumping his fist while holding the baseball, surrounded by friends and fellow fans who were also celebrating. However, the excitement was short-lived as the play was reviewed and the home run was overturned due to spectator interference, resulting in an RBI double instead.
The Yankees ultimately lost the game 4-3, leading to a sweep by the Rays in the ALDS. Following the incident, the fan was escorted out of the stadium by security and NYPD officers. Major League Baseball later confirmed the interference call, stating that the ball would not have left the field and that the decision was based on a thorough review of all angles.
