Yankees' George Lombard Jr. Day-to-Day with Knee Discomfort
New York Yankees rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. was unable to play in his first major league game on Sunday due to discomfort in his right knee, which he experienced after a check swing during Saturday's doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox.
Lombard is currently considered day-to-day and is not anticipated to require an injured list placement or cortisone injections. Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed that the structural integrity of Lombard's knee is intact, although he is dealing with some inflammation and soreness.
In Lombard's absence, José Caballero took over at shortstop. Lombard, who joined the Yankees on August 4, has made a notable impact, hitting .253 with two home runs and six RBIs in 23 games, despite committing seven errors. Additionally, Luis Gil has returned to the Yankees after a lengthy absence due to shoulder issues, while Yerry De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A to make room for him.
