Yankees' George Lombard Jr. Exits Game Due to Knee Discomfort

New York Yankees rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. was taken out of the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox due to discomfort in his right knee.

The Yankees reported that Lombard was undergoing imaging at New York-Presbyterian hospital. During the second inning, he checked his swing on a pitch from Boston's Brayan Bello, after which he showed signs of pain and held his knee.

Despite the discomfort, Lombard managed to stay in the game long enough to hit a single and later flew out in the third inning. He did not return to the field for the fourth inning, leading to José Caballero moving to shortstop and Amed Rosario taking over at third base. Lombard, who joined the Yankees on August 4, has a batting average of .253 with two home runs and six RBIs in 23 games.
