Yankees Have Previously Expressed Interest in Jacob Young
The New York Yankees have previously indicated interest in Jacob Young, a center fielder for the Washington Nationals, according to a report. While it remains unclear if formal discussions took place, the Nationals were exploring trade options for Young earlier this year.
Young, 27, has just finished his fourth season in Major League Baseball, where he has a career batting average of .248 with a wRC+ of 82. He is recognized more for his speed and defensive capabilities than for his power hitting, having recorded 15 home runs and a .091 isolated slugging percentage throughout his career. Young has successfully stolen 79 bases out of 104 attempts, achieving a 76% success rate.
This season, Young demonstrated improved performance, achieving a .252 batting average and a 95 wRC+, marking his best offensive output to date. He is eligible for arbitration in 2027 and is under team control for two additional seasons. The Nationals may consider trading him, especially given the lack of strong center field options in the free agent market. Several teams, including the Astros and Blue Jays, could be potential suitors for Young.
