Yankees Place Fernando Cruz on Injured List Due to Elbow Issues

The New York Yankees announced the placement of right-handed pitcher Fernando Cruz on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday due to discomfort in his elbow.

Cruz has faced difficulties since the All-Star break, notably allowing a two-run homer to Jeremy Pena during a recent 9-7 loss to the Houston Astros. After the game, he was seen leaving the clubhouse accompanied by a team trainer.

At 36 years old, Cruz had a strong start to the season with a 2.20 ERA after a scoreless inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 17. However, he has since struggled, giving up five home runs and walking ten batters in 13 2/3 innings, resulting in a 5.93 ERA during that period. Overall, he holds a record of 4-6 with two saves and a 3.13 ERA in 61 appearances this season. In related moves, the Yankees optioned Bradley Hanner to Triple-A, recalled Elmer Rodriguez, and signed Michael Fulmer, who was previously with the Los Angeles Angels.
