Yankees Place Ryan McMahon on Injured List Due to Thumb Injury
The New York Yankees have placed third baseman Ryan McMahon on the 10-day injured list, effective retroactively from August 20, due to a sprained left thumb. Max Schuemann has been called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill the roster spot.
McMahon sustained the injury during a game against Baltimore, where he jammed his thumb while attempting to slide into second base after hitting an RBI single. He initially tried to continue playing but was replaced by pinch-hitter José Caballero in the eighth inning.
The team does not anticipate a long-term absence for McMahon, who indicated that he has a Grade 2 sprain and hopes to return soon. Manager Aaron Boone echoed this sentiment. For the next week and a half, Caballero is expected to take on the primary third baseman role. This marks McMahon's second stint on the injured list this season, having previously missed time in June due to a throat infection.
