Yankees Promote Bradley Hanner for MLB Debut

The New York Yankees have announced the recall of reliever Bradley Hanner from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, marking his MLB debut. Hanner takes the place of Kervin Castro, who has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow neuritis, retroactive to August 10.

This will be Hanner's first appearance in the major leagues at the age of 27. Although he was previously called up shortly after the All-Star Break, he was optioned back to Triple-A. The Yankees had to add him to the 40-man roster following an opt-out clause in his minor league contract.

Hanner has had a strong season in Triple-A, boasting a 2.10 ERA and striking out 29% of batters over 51 1/3 innings. Despite a higher-than-ideal walk rate of 11.4%, his performance prompted the Yankees to promote him. Hanner was drafted by the Twins in 2019 and has since played in various minor league teams before joining the Yankees.
