Yankees Promote Pitching Prospect Bryce Cunningham to Double-A Somerset
The New York Yankees announced the promotion of right-handed pitcher Bryce Cunningham from High-A Hudson Valley to Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. This move allows Cunningham, one of the Yankees' top pitching prospects, to gain experience in the Eastern League as the minor-league season approaches its end.
Cunningham, who was selected by the Yankees as the 53rd overall pick in the 2024 draft from Vanderbilt, is set to make his Double-A debut with the Somerset Patriots. The 23-year-old stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 230 pounds, and has been ranked among New York's top 10 prospects throughout the year.
This promotion is part of a series of organizational changes, which also included the reinstatement of Chris Veach from the 60-day injured list and the transfer of Sean Paul Linan back to Hudson Valley. Cunningham's performance at Hudson Valley in 2026 included a 2-8 record with a 4.71 ERA over 17 games, a decline from his previous season's strong showing. The Yankees are optimistic about his potential as a mid-rotation starter if he can maintain his health and improve his command.
