Yankees Sign Eli Morgan to Minor League Contract
The New York Yankees have reached an agreement with reliever Eli Morgan on a minor league contract. Morgan, a 30-year-old right-handed pitcher, previously played for the Kansas City Royals but became a free agent after being designated for assignment.
Following his signing, Morgan will join the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to bolster the team's depth as they approach the postseason. This season, he has made five major league appearances, pitching 19 1/3 innings with a 5.12 ERA, allowing 11 runs on 24 hits and nine walks while striking out 16 batters.
Despite his recent struggles in the majors, Morgan has performed well in Triple-A, posting a 1.40 ERA over 25 2/3 innings. The Yankees, who currently have a strong bullpen with a 3.00 ERA, are looking to ensure they have adequate coverage as they head into the final stretch of the season.
