Yankees Sign Jarred Kelenic to Minor League Contract

The New York Yankees have signed Jarred Kelenic, a former top outfield prospect, to a minor league contract. This move occurred on Saturday after Kelenic, who was a first-round draft pick in 2018, became a free agent by opting out of a minor league assignment with the Texas Rangers.

Kelenic, 27, is expected to join Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He was previously drafted sixth overall by the New York Mets and has played in Major League games for several teams, including the Seattle Mariners, Atlanta Braves, Chicago White Sox, and Rangers. In the current season, he has participated in 36 games for the White Sox and Rangers, achieving a batting average of .219 with one home run and six RBIs. Over his career, Kelenic has a .211 batting average, with a total of 50 home runs and 162 RBIs across 443 games over six seasons.
