Yankees Trade Camilo Doval to Pirates

The New York Yankees have completed a trade sending right-handed reliever Camilo Doval to the Pittsburgh Pirates. In return, the Yankees will receive catcher Omar Alfonzo and outfielder Luis Cruz, as reported by Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com.

Doval, who is 29 years old, is under contract for $6.1 million this season, with approximately $1.837 million remaining. The Pirates will assume $750,000 of his salary, while the Yankees will cover about $1.086 million to facilitate the deal. Doval, an All-Star in 2023, has had a mixed performance with the Yankees, struggling particularly against left-handed hitters.

This season, Doval has a 7.08 ERA at home but a much better 1.86 ERA on the road. His high strikeout rate has dipped this year, but he maintains a strong ground-ball rate. The Pirates are hopeful that a change of scenery will help Doval realize his potential as a late-inning reliever.
