Yashvir Singh Replaces Neeraj Chopra in Indian Athletics Squad for Asian Games

Yashvir Singh, a bronze medallist from the Commonwealth Games, has been selected to replace the injured Neeraj Chopra in India's athletics team for the Asian Games, scheduled from September 19 to October 4 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) revealed the 77-member squad during a press conference in Ludhiana, coinciding with the National Youth Championships. Alongside Chopra's absence, long-distance runner Abhishek Pal was dropped from the team following a notice from the National Anti-Doping Agency regarding a doping allegation.

AFI president Bahadur Singh Sagoo confirmed that Singh's inclusion was due to Chopra's unavailability, emphasizing that it was an injury replacement. The final squad also saw the addition of six athletes, bringing the total to 77 members, while Sable's participation in the men's 5,000m is pending confirmation based on his performance in an upcoming event.
