Yomif Kejelcha Sets New Men's Half Marathon World Record
Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha has set a new men's half marathon world record, completing the race in 56 minutes 51 seconds at a World Athletics event in Buenos Aires on Sunday.
The 29-year-old athlete previously held the record with a time of 57:30, which he set in Valencia in October 2024, but lost it to Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo in March when Kiplimo recorded a time of 57:20 in Lisbon. Kejelcha's latest performance surpasses Kiplimo's time by 29 seconds, pending official ratification.
In addition to his half marathon achievements, Kejelcha is a world track silver medallist in the 10,000m and holds the world record for a men's 10,000m road race. Earlier this year, he also became one of the first men to run a sub-two hour marathon in record-eligible conditions, finishing second in the London Marathon.
