Yorkshire CEO Criticizes ECB Test Match Allocation
Sanjay Patel, the Chief Executive of Yorkshire, has expressed disappointment regarding the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) allocation of Test matches for 2027, stating that the club feels unfairly treated. This sentiment was shared during the ongoing Test match between England and Pakistan at Headingley.
Headingley will not host an Ashes Test in 2027 and is also excluded from the India Test series in 2029, making it the only major English venue without fixtures in these prominent tours. This marks the fourth time in seven Ashes series that Headingley has been overlooked. The venue has hosted only two Tests against India since being promoted to host at least four Tests in 2011.
Patel mentioned that the club is working on plans to secure investment for the redevelopment of Headingley, aiming to enhance its facilities and ensure it is not overlooked in future allocations. He acknowledged the challenges of match allocation but emphasized the need for a balanced approach that considers the historical significance of venues like Headingley.
