Young Surfers Excel at Sea Harvest Grommet Games

Muizenberg Beach hosted the Sea Harvest Grommet Games Champion of Champions on October 24 and 25, 2026, where young surfers participated in a weekend filled with competition and learning.

Due to anticipated worsening conditions on Sunday, all heats for the Under 8 to Under 16 divisions were completed on Saturday. As onshore winds created challenging surf conditions on Sunday, the focus shifted to an educational program aimed at enhancing the surfers' skills.

The program featured Natasha van Greunen demonstrating pre-surf routines, followed by Brandon Walker discussing nutrition for optimal performance. Craig Johnson and Natasha conducted a session on surfing techniques and heat strategies, while SSA General Manager Danielle Powis wrapped up the educational component with insights on judging criteria and priority rules. The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony recognizing achievements across ten divisions.
