Yuki Tsunoda in Discussions for 2027 IndyCar Seat with Meyer Shank Racing
Yuki Tsunoda, a seasoned Formula 1 driver, is reportedly negotiating with Meyer Shank Racing for a seat in the 2027 IndyCar Series. The Japanese driver, who has made 111 starts in F1 and is currently a reserve driver for Red Bull Racing, is eyeing the #66 Honda entry.
Currently, Marcus Armstrong holds the #66 seat but is set to transition to another car at the end of the season. Tsunoda's F1 career includes a notable fourth-place finish at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. His potential move to IndyCar follows a path taken by fellow Japanese driver Takuma Sato, a two-time Indianapolis 500 champion.
Tsunoda has some experience with Indy car machinery, having participated in a Honda promotional event in late 2024. During this event, he received coaching from six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon. Although he has expressed interest in racing in the U.S., he has also acknowledged the challenges of competing on American ovals, particularly at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Meyer Shank Racing co-owner Mike Shank confirmed that discussions are ongoing but no decisions have been made yet.
