Yuzvendra Chahal Discusses World Cup Exclusion and Rohit Sharma's Strategy
Yuzvendra Chahal, a prominent spinner for India, faced a significant shift in his career when he was excluded from the 2023 ODI World Cup squad. Despite his successful track record in white-ball cricket, he did not participate in the 2024 T20 World Cup either.
Chahal disclosed that Rohit Sharma, the then-captain, communicated the team's strategy, emphasizing the need for strong batting depth and the inclusion of an extra fast bowler. This decision left Chahal out of the 15-member squad. He noted that after the World Cup, he stopped worrying about selection.
Although he last played an ODI in January 2023, Chahal was selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup after a successful IPL season. However, he remained on the bench throughout the tournament. Chahal expressed that he approached the 2024 IPL with a mindset focused on enjoyment rather than pressure, which ultimately caught Rohit's attention.
