Zack Wheeler Named NL Players Choice Comeback Player of the Year
Zack Wheeler has been recognized as the National League Players Choice Comeback Player of the Year following a remarkable return from venous thoracic outlet syndrome, as announced by the Major League Baseball Players Association.
After undergoing thoracic outlet decompression surgery in September 2025, Wheeler excelled in his first season back, achieving a 3.00 ERA over 28 starts and contributing significantly to the Philadelphia Phillies' turnaround after his activation from the injured list on April 25.
Wheeler's journey back to form has inspired others, including Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Quinn Priester, who is also recovering from the same condition. Wheeler expressed gratitude for the recognition from his peers, emphasizing the significance of being acknowledged by fellow players who understand the challenges of returning from injury.
