Zheng Qinwen Secures First Title in Two Years at China Open
In Beijing, Zheng Qinwen claimed her first title in two years by defeating Mirra Andreeva, the French Open champion, with a score of 7-5, 6-4 in the China Open final on Sunday.
Zheng secured the victory on her first match point, delivering an ace that sent her to the ground in tears of joy. Her ranking had dropped from a career-high No. 4 to No. 54 due to an elbow injury prior to this tournament.
In 2024, Zheng had notable performances, including reaching the Australian Open final and winning the singles title at the Paris Olympics. She also demonstrated a return to form by reaching the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open in August, overcoming significant deficits in her matches. Meanwhile, despite the defeat, Andreeva is expected to achieve a career-high ranking of No. 3.
