
Zheng Qinwen Wins China Open, Makes History as First Chinese Champion
Zheng Qinwen made history by becoming the first Chinese woman to win the China Open, defeating Mirra Andreeva in straight sets during the final held in Beijing.
Entering the tournament as a wildcard and ranked 54th in the world, Zheng saved three set points in the first set before securing a 7-5, 6-4 victory over the fourth seed Andreeva. The 24-year-old celebrated her win by performing karaoke for the enthusiastic home crowd after her victory speech.
This victory marks Zheng's first WTA 1000 title and her sixth overall, ending a two-year title drought. Following the win, she is expected to rise 31 places in the world rankings to number 23. Andreeva, despite the loss, is projected to move up to the third position in the rankings.
